The Multiple Problem Solving Strategies and Automatic Scoring of “Area and Application of Trapezoid unit”

[[abstract]]This study takes “ the multiple problem solving strategies and automatic scoring of area and application of trapezoid unit” which is elementary mathematics, with multiple-strategies of constructed-response item to development automated analysis which can analyze problem solving strategies, skills, and the types of errors. Five conclusions are listed below: 1. In complex figure calculations, the MA strategy (merging the figures into a single figure before calculation) was the most commonly used strategy. This strategy yielded the highest correct-answer rate at approximately 80%. 2. The MB strategy (calculating the individual geometric figures of the complex figure separately, and then summing them) was the second most commonly used strategy, followed by the MC strategy (filling the missing gap in the figures, and then subtracting it from the complex figure). These strategies correct-answer rate at approximately 60%. 3. The most common error observed was failure to accurately determine the heights of triangles and parallelograms. With the increase in question complexity, the proportion of the two types of errors also increased. 4. Block analysis on the essay-type questions revealed a 90% consistency in answer strategy, concept skill, and error type, and the consistency achieved a mean value of 90% or more, indicating excellent effectiveness. 5.
